CPA Australia is the largest professional
finance, accounting and business body in Australia.
It consistently supports its members through
education, training and technical advice that
maintain their professional competence as well
as add value to their professional development,
recognition and standing.
To meet the demand of its members and the accounting
industry, CPA Australia Hong Kong China Division
launched its inaugural Career Market Day in 2005.
In its third consecutive year, the Career Market
Day 2007 was successfully held on January 20
and attracted 16 employers and over 800 participants
to join.
Professional qualification helps embark on career
journey

(From left) Loretta Shuen, Derek Lai and Thomas Wong shared their experiences
with the young accountants in the event.

Participants met their potential employers. |
Mr Derek Lai, President of CPA Australia Hong
Kong China Division, said, "This annual event
not only increases the public's awareness to
CPA Australia, but also provides a very good
recruitment and information exchange platform
for employers, accounting students, accounting
professionals as well as the people who are interested
in this industry,"
"Most of our members graduated from overseas
universities. They are creative and strong in
English and communication. Most importantly,
the global recognition of CPA (Aust.) helps them
to develop their careers everywhere in the world"
Derek continued.
Mr Thomas Wong, Deputy President of CPA Australia
Hong Kong China Division, agreed and said," Each
position in professional accounting requires
different skill sets. The
CPA Program professional examination provided
by CPA Australia with electives on various accounting,
finance and business topics
can meet members' need and equip them with sound
technical expertise and well rounded business
skills for future careers,"
"CPA Australia, with 112,000 members in
98 countries in the world, provides
a strong network for our members to pursue their
career goals in different countries," Thomas
added.
Mrs Loretta Shuen, Vice President of CPA Australia
Hong Kong China Division explained, "CPA
Australia emphasises on the Continuing Professional
Development
(CPD), so we arrange CPD courses for our members
frequently, such as regional conferences, workshops
on accounting skill sets, seminars on industry
trends and experience sharing sessions. Most
of the courses are tailor-made for the accounting
professionals working in Hong Kong."
"There is an extremely strong demand for
professional accountants in Hong Kong and China
markets. However,
accounting students or professionals should equip
themselves with solid accounting experiences,
good English and Mandarin, updated
knowledge of Chinese accounting standards as
well as the market trend in China. This is the
only way that they can cope with the future challenges
in the industry." Derek concluded.
